🎯 Objetivo del día

📖 Clase (60 min)

There is evidence to suggest that smoking can contribute to cancer.

1. Verbos modales de probabilidad. Bajan la certeza:

2. Adverbios de atenuación (downtoners).

3. Verbos de "señalar/sugerir" (reporting/tentative verbs).

4. Estructuras impersonales y de distanciamiento.

5. Cuantificadores y frecuencia atenuados.

6. Combinación. El hedging real combina varios recursos sin pasarse: It could be argued that this policy may have somewhat reduced inequality, at least in the short term.

Examiner: Do social media harm teenagers? (¿Las redes sociales perjudican a los adolescentes?) Candidate (sin hedging, débil): Yes. Social media destroy teenagers. Everyone knows it. (Sí. Las redes destruyen a los adolescentes. Todos lo saben.) Candidate (con hedging, fuerte): It could be argued that excessive use may have some negative effects on certain teenagers, although the evidence is somewhat mixed. Examiner: That's a more balanced answer. (Esa es una respuesta más equilibrada.)
