📖 Clase (60 min)
- Normal: I have never seen such a mess. (Nunca he visto semejante desastre.)
- Inversión: Never have I seen such a mess.
- Normal: She rarely complains. (Rara vez se queja.)
- Inversión: Rarely does she complain.
Fíjate: tras el adverbio negativo, la frase "se comporta como una pregunta" (auxiliar antes del sujeto) aunque no es pregunta. Es el rasgo que marca el alto nivel.
Explicación detallada (regla por regla)
Regla 1 — Disparadores de inversión (adverbios negativos/restrictivos al inicio): Never, Rarely, Seldom, Hardly, Scarcely, Barely, Little, Nowhere, No sooner, Not only, Not until, On no account, Under no circumstances, At no time, Only then, Only after, Only by.
Regla 2 — Orden: Adverbio negativo + auxiliar + sujeto + verbo principal.
- Never have I felt so happy. → Nunca me he sentido tan feliz.
- Rarely does he arrive on time. → Rara vez llega puntual.
- Seldom had they seen such talent. → Rara vez habían visto tal talento.
Regla 3 — Si no hay auxiliar, usa do/does/did (igual que al formar preguntas en presente/pasado simple).
- She seldom calls. → Seldom does she call.
- They rarely went out. → Rarely did they go out.
Regla 4 — No sooner… than / Hardly… when (acción inmediatamente seguida de otra):
- No sooner had I sat down than the phone rang. → Nada más sentarme, sonó el teléfono.
- Hardly had we left when it started to rain. → Apenas nos fuimos, empezó a llover.
Regla 5 — Not only… but also (inversión solo en la primera parte):
- Not only did he apologise, but he also paid for the damage. → No solo se disculpó, sino que también pagó los daños.
Regla 6 — Only + tiempo/condición: la inversión va en la cláusula principal, no en la subordinada:
- Only when you try will you understand. → Solo cuando lo intentes lo entenderás.
- Only after the meeting did I realise the truth.

Gramática a fondo
| Frase normal | Inversión |
|---|---|
| I have never seen this. | Never have I seen this. |
| She rarely smiles. | Rarely does she smile. |
| They had hardly left when… | Hardly had they left when… |
| He didn't realise until later. | Not until later did he realise. |
| You must not touch it. | On no account must you touch it. |
| I understood only then. | Only then did I understand. |
- El auxiliar invertido toma el tiempo: have/has, had, do/does/did, will, can, must…
- La negación NO se duplica: ✗ Never I haven't seen… → ✓ Never have I seen…
- Little con inversión = sentido enfático "poco/nada": Little did she know… (Poco sabía ella…).
Pronunciación y notas de uso
- Entonación: el adverbio inicial se pronuncia con fuerza y ligera pausa: Never,… have I seen…
- Registro muy formal/literario. En conversación informal suena rebuscado salvo fórmulas hechas (No way!, Little did I know).
- Útil y valorado en escritura argumentativa y presentaciones formales: aporta peso retórico.
- No sooner had I… than… — error frecuente usar when; con no sooner va than.
Errores comunes del hispanohablante
- ✗ Never I have seen this. → ✓ Never have I seen this. (hay que invertir.)
- ✗ Rarely she complains. → ✓ Rarely does she complain. (sin auxiliar, añade does.)
- ✗ Never I don't go there. → ✓ Never do I go there. (no dobles la negación.)
- ✗ No sooner I had arrived when… → ✓ No sooner had I arrived than… (inversión + than.)
- ✗ Not only he came but also he helped. → ✓ Not only did he come, but he also helped.
- ✗ Only when you try, you will understand. → ✓ Only when you try will you understand. (inversión en la principal.)
