Y la herramienta principal para crear esos rodeos son los verbos modales: would, could, may, might, should, shall.

Regla 2 — Ofertas y propuestas.

Regla 3 — Permiso formal. May es el más formal; could funciona; can es el más informal.

Regla 4 — Sugerencias y consejo diplomático. Should directo a veces suena a regaño. Suavízalo:

Regla 5 — Obligación: must vs. have to vs. need to. En el trabajo escrito, must suena impositivo (reservado para normas: All staff must wear ID badges). Para obligaciones del día a día se prefiere need to / have to:

Regla 6 — would para hipótesis profesional educada. That would be great. / I'd appreciate it. / It would be helpful if you could confirm. El would "amortigua" y suena considerado.

Gramática a fondo

Función Informal Estándar educado Muy formal/diplomático
Pedir Can you...? Could you...? I was wondering if you could...
Pedir (suave) Would you...? Would you mind + -ing...?
Ofrecer I'll... I can... Shall I...? / Would you like me to...?
Permiso Can I...? Could I...? May I...?
Sugerir You should... You could... You might want to... / Perhaps we could...
Agradecer condic. Thanks if you... I'd be grateful if... I would greatly appreciate it if you could...

Estructura clave: Would you mind + verbo-ingWould you mind sending me the file? La respuesta afirmativa es contraintuitiva: "No, not at all" = "Sí, claro" (no me importa).

Estructura: I was wondering if you could + infinitivo → siempre en pasado (was wondering, could) aunque hables del presente; es una fórmula fija de cortesía.

Pronunciación y notas de uso

(Sería estupendo. ¿Podría enviárselas también al cliente con antelación?) Employee: Of course. May I ask who the client contact is? Manager: It's Ms. Lee. I'd appreciate it if you could copy me on the email. (Es la Sra. Lee. Le agradecería que me pusiera en copia.) Employee: Certainly. I'll send it at your earliest convenience...
