⏱️ Duración total: ~3 h 15 min — Clase 60 min · Ejercicios 60 min · Reto 60 min · Quiz ~15 min.
Ejemplo: If I had saved money (entonces, en el pasado), I would be rich now (ahora).
If + had + participio (pasado), would + infinitivo (presente).
- If I had taken that job, I would be in London now.
- If she hadn't missed the flight, she would be here with us.
- If they had invested earlier, they would have more money today. — Si hubieran invertido antes, tendrían más dinero hoy.
Regla 2 — Marcadores temporales que delatan el mixto. Palabras como now, today, still, currently, these days, at the moment en la cláusula de resultado son la pista de que es mixto y no 3.er puro:
- 3.er puro: If I had studied, I would have passed. (todo en el pasado)
- Mixto A: If I had studied medicine, I would be a doctor now. (pasado → presente)
Regla 3 — Significado: causa pasada, efecto presente.
If I hadn't quit, I would still work there.
If I had learned to drive, I would be more independent now.
- Atribuir un estado actual a la suerte/azar: If we hadn't met that day, we wouldn't be married today.
Regla 4 — Resultado con could / might. Para matizar (posibilidad o capacidad):
- If I had gone to university, I could have a better job now. — ...podría tener un mejor trabajo ahora.
- If she had accepted, things might be different today.
- If I had slept more, I wouldn't be so tired now.
- I wouldn't be so tired now if I had slept more.
Hoy: pasado → presente (had + part., would + inf.). Mañana veremos el inverso: presente/general → pasado (If I were rich, I would have bought it). No los mezcles aún.

Gramática a fondo
| Estructura | Cláusula if | Resultado | Eje temporal |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3.er condicional | had + participio | would have + part. | pasado → pasado |
| Mixto tipo A | had + participio | would + infinitivo | pasado → presente |
| 2.º condicional | pasado simple | would + infinitivo | presente → presente |
Resultado presente — formas posibles: would be / would have / would live / would know (estados, no acciones puntuales). También could / might + infinitivo: would feel better, could speak fluently, might be happier.
Pronunciación y notas de uso
- If I'd /aɪd/ = If I had (no confundir con I'd = I would; aquí, tras if, es siempre had).
- would be en habla rápida → /wʊd bi/ → contraído I'd be /aɪd bi/.
- now y today suelen llevar acento de énfasis porque marcan el contraste temporal: I would be RICH now.
Errores comunes del hispanohablante
- ✗ If I had studied, I would have a good job now. en realidad es correcta; el error típico es: ✗ If I would have studied, I would have a good job now. → ✓ If I had studied, I would have a good job now.
- ✗ If I had studied, I would be a doctor dicho cuando se quiere decir pasado → usa would have been si el resultado es pasado. Distingue be (ahora) vs. have been (entonces).
- ✗ If I didn't miss the flight, I would be here. → ✓ If I hadn't missed the flight, I would be here.
- ✗ If I had won the lottery, I will travel. → ✓ ...I would travel / I would be travelling.
- ✗ Mezclar mal: If I had been you... (sin sentido) → ✓ If I were you (para consejo presente).
Mini-diálogo de ejemplo
A: You seem stressed. (Pareces estresado.) B: I am. If I hadn't quit my old job, I wouldn't be so worried about money now. (Lo estoy. Si no hubiera dejado mi antiguo trabajo, no estaría tan preocupado por el dinero ahora.) A: But you weren't happy there. If you had stayed, you would be miserable today. (Pero no eras feliz allí. Si te hubieras quedado, estarías amargado hoy.) B: True. And if I hadn't taken the risk, I wouldn't know what I'm really capable of. (Cierto. A: Exactly. If I had been that brave, I would have my own business by now. (Exacto.
