Introducción y contexto

Ya sabes elegir a/an/the y cuándo omitir el artículo. Hoy aplicamos eso a un área con reglas propias muy útiles para describir el mundo: la geografía. El hispanohablante suele dudar aquí porque en español sí decimos "el Amazonas", "los Andes", "el Mediterráneo", pero también "España", "Madrid". El inglés tiene un sistema sorprendentemente regular: te lo vas a aprender hoy con grupos claros.

La regla mental rápida: los conjuntos de agua y de montañas, los plurales y las regiones llevan the; las unidades sueltas (un país, una ciudad, una montaña, un lago, un continente) no. Esto te servirá toda la vida: en el día 6 de esta semana tienes que describir un país, y necesitarás esta precisión.

Regla 1 — CON the: ríos, mares, océanos, canales, golfos.
