Introducción y contexto

Ayer vimos a/an/the. Hoy llega la mitad invisible del tema: las situaciones donde el inglés no pone ningún artículo. A esto lo llamamos artículo cero (zero article, Ø). Es probablemente la causa nº 1 de error de artículos en hispanohablantes, porque el español casi siempre exige el/la/los/las: decimos "La vida es dura", "Me gustan los perros", "El español es bonito". En inglés, en sentido general, todas esas frases van sin artículo: Life is hard. I like dogs. Spanish is beautiful.

La idea central es esta: el artículo cero se usa para hablar de cosas en general, como categoría o concepto, no de un ejemplar concreto. Hoy aprenderás los grupos donde se omite y, sobre todo, el contraste general (Ø) vs. específico (the), que es la clave para no equivocarte el resto del curso.

Explicación detallada (regla por regla)

Regla 1 — Plurales e incontables EN GENERAL → sin artículo.

Compara con lo específico:

Regla 2 — Conceptos abstractos en general → sin artículo.

Pero específico → the: The life of a soldier is hard. / The history of Rome.

Regla 3 — Idiomas, asignaturas, deportes, colores → sin artículo.

Regla 4 — Comidas, días, meses, estaciones (en general) → sin artículo.

Regla 5 — Lugares por su FUNCIÓN (sin the); con the si es el edificio físico.

Regla 6 — Nombres propios de personas, ciudades, la mayoría de países → sin the.

(Excepciones geográficas con the las vemos mañana.)
