📖 Clase (60 min)
Introducción y contexto
Ayer aprendiste have to para "tener que". Lo verás en carteles, instrucciones, normas y reglamentos: "You must wear a helmet", "Visitors must sign in".
Regla 1 — must = obligación fuerte ("deber / tener que").
Estructura: Sujeto + must + verbo (base, sin to)
- You must wear a helmet. → Debes llevar casco.
- Drivers must stop at a red light. → Los conductores deben parar en rojo.
- I must call the doctor. → Tengo que llamar al médico. (yo lo siento necesario)
- Students must arrive on time. → Los estudiantes deben llegar a tiempo.
Regla 2 — must NO cambia con la persona.
Es modal, como can. Misma forma para todos:
- ✓ He must study. (NO He musts study.)
- ✓ She must sign the form. (NO She must signs.)
Regla 3 — mustn't = prohibición ("no debes / está prohibido").
mustn't = must not. Significa que algo NO está permitido:
- You mustn't smoke here. → No debes / No se puede fumar aquí.
- You mustn't park here. → Está prohibido aparcar aquí.
- Children mustn't play with fire. → Los niños no deben jugar con fuego.
⚠️ mustn't NO es "no es necesario". Es "te lo prohíbo / no está permitido". (El "no es necesario" será don't have to, mañana.)
Regla 4 — must con verbo base, nunca to.
- ✗ You must to wear a helmet. → ✓ You must wear a helmet.
- ✗ He must signs. → ✓ He must sign.

Gramática a fondo

|---|---|---|
| Afirmativo | Suj. + must + verbo | You must stop. |
| Negativo | Suj. + mustn't + verbo | You mustn't smoke. |
| 3ª persona | igual (sin -s) | She must sign. |
must vs. have to (idea clave para hoy):
| must | have to | |
|---|---|---|
| Negativo | mustn't = prohibido | don't have to = no necesario |
Ejemplo de contraste:
- You must wear ID. → Norma escrita, oficial.
- You have to wear ID. → "Hay que", lo dices charlando.
Pronunciación y notas de uso
- must /mʌst/ rima con "just".
- ✗ You must to wear a helmet. → ✓ You must wear a helmet.
- ✗ She musts sign here. → ✓ She must sign here.
- ✗ Usar mustn't para "no es necesario": You mustn't pay (¡significa "te prohíbo pagar"!). Para "no hace falta pagar" → You don't have to pay.
- ✗ He must signs the form. → ✓ He must sign the form.
- ✗ Pronunciar la t de mustn't ("mast-nt") → ✓ "má-snt".
- ✗ Must I to go? → ✓ Must I go?
