📖 Clase (60 min)
Segundo, sonar demasiado rígido o demasiado blando: o "This is impossible" (cierra la negociación), o ceder a la primera.
Regla 1 — Abrir y posicionar.
- Thank you for meeting us. Shall we go over the main points first?
- Our main priority is... / What we're really looking for is...
- Before we start, it might help to outline what we're each hoping to achieve.
Regla 2 — Proponer (sin cerrarte).
- We'd be prepared to... / We could consider... / One option would be to...
- How about + -ing...? / What if we...? / Would you be open to...?
- Evita afirmaciones absolutas en la apertura; usa would/could para dejar margen.
Regla 3 — El condicional de intercambio (clave). Nunca concedas sin pedir:
- If you order before Friday, we'll offer a 10% discount. (1.er condicional, oferta real)
- We could lower the price, provided that you increase the volume. (provided/as long as = a condición de que)
- If you were able to pay upfront, we would be able to extend the warranty. (2.º condicional, más tentativo/diplomático)
- Fórmula maestra: If you + (concesión de ellos), we'll/we'd + (concesión tuya).
Regla 4 — Pedir y conceder con equilibrio.
- Pedir: Would you be able to...? / Is there any flexibility on...? / Could you possibly...?
- Conceder con condición: We could do that, but in return we'd need... / On condition that...
- Conceder mostrando esfuerzo: That's not normally something we do, but we could make an exception if...
Regla 5 — Resistir/rechazar sin cerrar.
- I'm afraid that's not something we can agree to at the moment.
- That would be difficult for us, but we could look at... instead.
- I'm not sure we can go that far, but let's see what's possible.
- ✗ That's impossible. / No. → cierran la puerta.
Regla 6 — Desbloquear y cerrar.
- Desbloquear: Let's meet halfway. / Can we find a compromise? / Why don't we park this point and come back to it?
- Comprobar acuerdo: So, just to confirm: you'll..., and we'll... Is that acceptable?
- Cerrar: Do we have a deal? / Shall we put that in writing? / I think we have an agreement.

Gramática a fondo — condicionales de negociación
| Tipo | Estructura | Tono | Ejemplo |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.er condicional | If + presente, will | Oferta real, firme | If you sign today, we'll waive the fee. |
| 2.º condicional | If + pasado, would | Tentativo, diplomático | If you ordered more, we would lower the price. |
| provided/as long as | ..., provided that + presente | Condición explícita | We'll deliver early, provided that payment is upfront. |
| unless | ..., unless + presente | Excepción | We can't proceed unless the terms change. |
✗ We have a compromise to deliver Monday → ✓ We have a commitment to deliver Monday.
Pronunciación y notas de uso
- negotiate /nɪˈɡəʊʃieɪt/ — ni-GÓU-shi-eit; sustantivo negotiation /nɪˌɡəʊʃiˈeɪʃn/.
- compromise /ˈkɒmprəmaɪz/ — CÓM-pro-mais; el final suena "-mais", no "-mis".
- upfront — adverbio/adjetivo: pago "por adelantado"; también "directo/franco" (Let me be upfront with you).
- El uso de would/could (no will/can) en las propuestas iniciales señala "esto es negociable", clave cultural en el regateo anglosajón.
Errores comunes del hispanohablante
- ✗ We have a compromise to deliver Friday. → ✓ We have a commitment to deliver Friday.
- ✗ That's impossible. → ✓ That would be difficult for us, but we could look at...
- ✗ Conceder sin pedir: OK, we lower the price. → ✓ We could lower the price if you order more.
- ✗ If you will order more, we lower... → ✓ If you order more, we'll lower... (no will en la cláusula if).
- ✗ I am agree with the terms. → ✓ I agree with the terms.
- ✗ We need that you pay upfront. → ✓ We need you to pay upfront.
- ✗ Traducir "estoy de acuerdo en principio" como I am agree in principle → ✓ I agree in principle.
Mini-diálogo de ejemplo
Buyer: Your price is a little high. Is there any flexibility on the unit cost? (Su precio es algo alto. ¿Hay flexibilidad en el coste unitario?) Seller: We could lower it by 5%, provided that you increase the order to 1,000 units. Buyer: That's a big jump. What if we ordered 800 and paid upfront? (Es un salto grande. ¿Y si pedimos 800 y pagamos por adelantado?) Seller: If you paid upfront, we'd be able to offer 4% on 800. Buyer: Let's meet halfway — 800 units, 4.5%, upfront. (Encontrémonos a medio camino: 800 unidades, 4,5 %, por adelantado.) Seller: I think we have a deal. Shall we put that in writing? (Creo que tenemos un trato. ¿Lo ponemos por escrito?)
