📖 Clase (60 min)
Introducción y contexto
Ayer viste el gerundio (verb + -ing). Hoy le toca a su pareja: el infinitivo con to (to + base del verbo): to work, to eat, to be, to learn.
Estos verbos llevan to + verbo detrás. Memoriza el grupo:
- want: I want to learn English. → Quiero aprender inglés.
- would like: I 'd like to travel more. → Me gustaría viajar más.
- decide: She decided to study medicine. → Ella decidió estudiar medicina.
- hope: We hope to see you soon. → Esperamos verte pronto.
- need: You need to rest. → Necesitas descansar.
- plan: They plan to move abroad. → Planean mudarse al extranjero.
- promise: He promised to help. → Prometió ayudar.
- learn: I'm learning to drive. → Estoy aprendiendo a conducir.
- try (= intentar): She tried to call you. → Intentó llamarte.
- offer: They offered to pay. → Ofrecieron pagar.
- agree: We agreed to meet at six. → Acordamos vernos a las seis.
Regla 2 — Infinitivo de propósito (= "para…").
Para decir para qué haces algo, el inglés usa simplemente to + verbo (no for + -ing):
- I went to the shop to buy milk. → Fui a la tienda para comprar leche.
- She's studying hard to pass the exam. → Estudia mucho para aprobar el examen.
- I called to say thank you. → Llamé para dar las gracias.
Equivalentes más formales: in order to / so as to + verbo (I left early in order to catch the train).
Regla 3 — Infinitivo después de adjetivos.
Tras adjetivos que describen reacción o dificultad, se usa to + verbo:
- It's difficult to understand. → Es difícil de entender.
- English is easy to learn. → El inglés es fácil de aprender.
- I'm happy to help you. → Estoy contento de ayudarte.
- She was glad to see them. → Se alegró de verlos.
- It's important to practise. → Es importante practicar.
Regla 4 — Infinitivo tras something / anything / nowhere, etc.
- I have something to tell you. → Tengo algo que decirte.
- There's nothing to do here. → No hay nada que hacer aquí.
- Is there anywhere to eat nearby? → ¿Hay algún sitio para comer cerca?
Regla 5 — Infinitivo SIN to (bare infinitive).
Después de los modales (can, will, must, should, may, might) el verbo va sin to:
- I can swim. (✗ to swim) → Sé nadar.
- You should rest. → Deberías descansar.
- We must go now. → Debemos irnos ya.

Pronunciación y notas de uso
- En habla rápida, to se reduce a /tə/ ("ta"): want to suena "uána", going to suena "gona". Reconócelo al escuchar; al escribir, siempre completo.
- would like to contraído: I'd like to = "áid laik tu".
- No confundas to (infinitivo) con too (también/demasiado) ni con two (dos): se pronuncian igual pero se escriben distinto.
Errores comunes del hispanohablante
