📖 Clase (60 min)
Introducción y contexto
Hoy es el día más divertido de la semana: usamos toda la gramática del segundo condicional para soñar. Estas estructuras son la base de miles de conversaciones reales en inglés: "If you could live anywhere, where would you live?", "If you could meet anyone, who would it be?". Aparecen en entrevistas, en clases de conversación, en juegos de mesa y en exámenes orales B1/B2. Dominarlas te da munición infinita para hablar.
La novedad de hoy es la combinación If I could + infinitivo, que añade la idea de "si tuviera la capacidad/posibilidad de…". Es ligeramente distinta de If I had: If I could speak Chinese (si supiera/pudiera hablar chino) suena más natural que If I spoke Chinese en muchos contextos de habilidad.
Explicación detallada (regla por regla)
Regla 1 — If I could + infinitivo = "si pudiera / si tuviera la capacidad de".
- If I could fly, I would visit every country. → Si pudiera volar, visitaría todos los países.
- If I could speak five languages, I would work at the UN. → Si pudiera hablar cinco idiomas, trabajaría en la ONU.
- If she could change one thing, she would change her job. → Si ella pudiera cambiar una cosa, cambiaría su trabajo.
Regla 2 — Preguntas clásicas de sueños (memorízalas como bloques):
- If you could live anywhere, where would you live? → Si pudieras vivir en cualquier sitio, ¿dónde vivirías?
- If you could meet anyone, who would you meet? → Si pudieras conocer a cualquiera, ¿a quién conocerías?
- If you could change one thing about your life, what would it be? → Si pudieras cambiar una cosa de tu vida, ¿qué sería?
- If you had three wishes, what would you wish for? → Si tuvieras tres deseos, ¿qué pedirías?
Regla 3 — what would it be? Para cosas, la respuesta de "what would it be" se da con It would be…:
- "If you could have one superpower, what would it be?" — "It would be invisibility."
Regla 4 — Vocabulario de sueños con el segundo condicional. Combina libremente con travel, learn, live, meet, change, help, become, build:
- If I were rich, I would help my family and build a school.
- If I could start again, I would become a musician.
Regla 5 — Encadenar la conversación. Tras responder, devuelve la pregunta: "What about you? What would you do?" Esto mantiene el diálogo vivo.

Pronunciación y notas de uso
- If I could enlazado suena "i-fai-kud".
- what would it be enlazado: "wha-wud-i-bi" /wɒt wʊd ɪt biː/.
- wish /wɪʃ/ → "uish"; cuidado de no decir "güish" exagerado, es un sonido suave.
- En respuestas, abusar de I'd es natural: "I'd live in Italy, I'd learn to cook…".
