Introducción y contexto

Los superlativos brillan cuando hablamos del mundo: la montaña más alta, el río más largo, el país más poblado, el desierto más grande. Hoy unimos la gramática de superlativos con vocabulario de geografía física y récords, un tema que aparece en exámenes, documentales y conversación cotidiana ("¿sabías que...?"). También practicarás leer números grandes en inglés y combinar comparativo y superlativo para presentar datos. Es la preparación directa para el proyecto de la semana ("the best/worst...").

1. Vocabulario de geografía + superlativo (modelo de frase):

• Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world. (la montaña más alta)
• The Nile is the longest river in the world. (el río más largo) — the Amazon le disputa el récord.
• The Sahara is the largest hot desert on Earth.
• Russia is the biggest country in the world by area.
• China and India are the most populated countries.

2. Adjetivos típicos de geografía:

3. high vs. tall: tall para cosas/personas estrechas y altas (buildings, people); high para cosas elevadas en general (mountains, prices). the tallest building, the highest mountain.

4. Leer números grandes (clave para datos):

• 8,849 metres → "eight thousand, eight hundred and forty-nine metres".
• 1.4 billion → "one point four billion" (= 1.400 millones; billion inglés = mil millones).
• 6,650 km long → "six thousand, six hundred and fifty kilometres long".

• desert (déset, sustantivo: desierto) vs. dessert (disért, postre): cuidado, casi homófonos.
• island → la "s" es muda: "áiland".
• mountain → "máuntin" (la segunda sílaba muy débil).
• square kilometres (km²) → "square kilometres"; metres high/long va detrás del número: 8,849 metres high.
