Introducción y contexto
Esta semana has aprendido las piezas; hoy las ensamblas. Describir una habitación es la tarea perfecta porque obliga a usar demostrativos (señalar), plurales (varios objetos), colores (describir) y preposiciones (ubicar). Añadiremos una herramienta nueva y muy útil para enumerar: There is / There are ("hay").
Explicación detallada — There is / There are
Para decir que algo existe o está presente en un lugar usamos:
- There is + sustantivo singular → There is a bed in my room. (Hay una cama en mi habitación.)
- There are + sustantivo plural → There are two windows. (Hay dos ventanas.)
Contracción: There's = There is. → There's a lamp on the desk. (El plural no se contrae: There are se dice completo.)
Negativo:
- There isn't a TV in my room. → No hay televisión.
- There aren't any plants. → No hay plantas.
Pregunta:
- Is there a desk? → Yes, there is. / No, there isn't.
- Are there any chairs? → Yes, there are. / No, there aren't.
Combinándolo con todo lo de la semana:
- There are two blue chairs next to the window. (Hay dos sillas azules al lado de la ventana.)
- There's a big white bed in front of the wall. (Hay una cama grande blanca delante de la pared.)
- These are my books. They're on the shelf. (Estos son mis libros. Están en el estante.)

Pronunciación y notas de uso
- There suena "dher" (sonido /ð/, lengua entre los dientes; no "der" ni "zer").
- There's → "dherz" (rápido).
- wardrobe → "uór-droub"; closet (US) → "kló-set".
- comfortable se pronuncia en 3 sílabas: "kámf-ta-bol" (¡la or casi no se oye!).

✗ In my room there are a bed. → ✓ There is a bed. (singular → is).
