Día 194 · Condicional cero vs. primer condicional
⏱️ Duración total: ~3 h 15 min — Clase 60 min · Ejercicios 60 min · Reto 60 min · Quiz ~15 min.
- Formarás el condicional cero: If + presente, presente.
- Sabrás cuándo if equivale a when (cero condicional).
- Elegirás el condicional adecuado según el contexto.
- Aplicarás todo en frases reales y cotidianas.
📖 Clase (60 min)
- Cero: If you heat ice, it melts. → verdad general, ciencia, hábito, ley natural.
- Primero: If it rains tomorrow, I will stay home.
Regla 1 — Condicional cero: If + presente, presente.
- If you heat water to 100°C, it boils. → Si calientas agua a 100°C, hierve.
- If you don't water plants, they die. → Si no riegas las plantas, se mueren.
- If I drink coffee at night, I don't sleep. → Si tomo café de noche, no duermo. (hábito personal siempre cierto)
Regla 2 — Primer condicional: If + presente, will.
- If it rains tomorrow, we will cancel the match. → Si llueve mañana, cancelaremos el partido.
- If you study tonight, you will pass the exam. → Si estudias esta noche, aprobarás el examen.
Regla 3 — En el condicional cero, if ≈ when.
Como es siempre cierto, if y when son intercambiables:
- If/When you heat ice, it melts.
- Sí → primer condicional (presente, will).
Regla 5 — Instrucciones = condicional cero con imperativo.
- If the light is red, stop. → Si la luz está roja, para.
- If you have a problem, press this button. → Si tienes un problema, pulsa este botón.
Tabla comparativa:
| Condicional cero | Primer condicional | |
|---|---|---|
| Estructura | If + presente, presente | If + presente, will + base |
| Uso | verdad general / hábito / ley | situación futura concreta posible |
| if = when? | Sí | No |

Gramática a fondo
| Tipo | Cláusula if | Cláusula principal | Ejemplo |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cero | presente | presente / imperativo | If you press it, it works. |
| Primero | presente | will + base (o can/may/imperativo) | If you press it, it will work. |
Matiz de significado con el mismo verbo:
- If you touch fire, you get burned. → verdad general (cualquiera, siempre).
- If you touch that, you will get burned.
If you heat water, it boils."
- En el primero, el 'll marca el futuro: "If you heat it, it'll boil." (más concreto/predictivo).
- boil /bɔɪl/, melt /mɛlt/, freeze /friːz/: practica las vocales.
Errores comunes del hispanohablante
- ✗ If you heat ice, it will melt (como ley general) → ✓ If you heat ice, it melts. (cero)
- ✗ If it rains tomorrow, we cancel the match (caso futuro concreto) → ✓ ... we will cancel... (primero)
- ✗ If you will press it, it works. → ✓ If you press it, it works.
- ✗ Usar when = if en el primer condicional cuando NO es seguro.
- ✗ If you don't water plants, they will die como verdad general → mejor they die (cero).
Mini-lectura de ejemplo
Water is interesting. If you heat it, it boils; if you freeze it, it becomes ice. These are facts — they happen every time. But tomorrow is different: if it is very cold tonight, the lake will freeze, and if that happens, we will go skating! So: science uses the zero conditional, but our plan for tomorrow uses the first conditional.
