📖 Clase (60 min)

Introducción y contexto

Ya sabes decir que algo existe (there is/are) y usar some/any. Hoy damos un paso más: medir cuánto o cuántos. En español tenemos "mucho/mucha/muchos/muchas" y "poco/poca/pocos/pocas", que cambian según el género y el número. El inglés es más simple en género (no hay), pero introduce una distinción clave que ya conoces de ayer: contable vs. incontable decide qué palabra de cantidad usar.

Estas palabras son el corazón de cualquier conversación sobre la compra, la dieta, el dinero o el tiempo: "How much milk do we need?", "There aren't many eggs", "I have a lot of work", "There's a little sugar left". Dominarlas hoy te hará sonar mucho más preciso y natural.

Explicación detallada (regla por regla)

Regla 1 — Preguntar cantidad: How much / How many.

How much + incontable → ¿Cuánto/a? · How much milk is there?
How many + contable plural → ¿Cuántos/as? · How many eggs are there?

Memotruco: maNY = coNtable (las dos tienen "n"). Much → incontable.

Regla 2 — much y many en negativas y preguntas.

Much y many se usan sobre todo en negativas y preguntas:

There isn't much milk. → No hay mucha leche. (incontable)
There aren't many eggs. → No hay muchos huevos. (contable)
Is there much traffic? → ¿Hay mucho tráfico?
Are there many people? → ¿Hay mucha gente?

Regla 3 — a lot of / lots of en afirmativas.

En frases afirmativas, lo natural NO es much/many sino a lot of (o lots of), que vale para contable e incontable:

There is a lot of milk. → Hay mucha leche.
There are a lot of eggs. → Hay muchos huevos.
I have lots of friends. → Tengo muchos amigos.

✗ "There are many eggs" en afirmativa suena formal/raro en habla coloquial → ✓ "There are a lot of eggs." (Many/much afirmativos sí se usan en lenguaje formal o escrito.)

Regla 4 — a few y a little (cantidades pequeñas).

a few + contable plural = unos pocos / unas pocas → a few apples (unas pocas manzanas).
a little + incontable = un poco de → a little milk (un poco de leche).
There are a few chairs. → Hay unas pocas sillas.
There is a little sugar. → Hay un poco de azúcar.

Sin "a": few/little suenan negativos ("casi ninguno", "casi nada"). En A1 quédate con a few / a little (idea positiva: "algo, aunque poco").

Pronunciación y notas de uso

A lot of en habla rápida suena "a lóta" (a lotta milk).
Many = "méni"; much = "mach" (vocal corta).
Enough se pronuncia "inóf" (ojo: la "gh" suena /f/).

✗ How much eggs? → ✓ How many eggs? (Contable → many.)
✗ There are much people. → ✓ There are a lot of people / many people. (People es plural contable.)
✗ There is many milk. → ✓ There is a lot of milk / much milk.
✗ I have a few money. → ✓ I have a little money. (Money incontable.)
✗ There are a little chairs. → ✓ There are a few chairs.
✗ too much eggs → ✓ too many eggs.
